Durham Offices Closing Memorial Day

Most City of Durham offices and non-emergency operations will be closed Monday, May 26, in observance of Memorial Day, with several key services adjusting their schedules for the holiday.

Solid Waste and Recycling

Curbside collections for garbage and recycling will be delayed by one business day next week. Friday yard waste pickup will shift to Monday, June 2. All waste facilities – including the Waste Disposal and Recycling Center, Yard Waste Facility, and Household Hazardous Waste Center – will be closed on Memorial Day.

Residents are encouraged to sign up for holiday service alerts through the Durham Rollout app or the Solid Waste Management Department’s webpage.

Parks and Recreation

Durham Parks and Recreation (DPR) facilities, including indoor pools and administrative offices, will be closed Monday, except for locations with existing rentals. Athletic fields and picnic shelters remain available for rent. Lake Michie and Little River Lake will be open Memorial Day from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

City spraygrounds at Edison Johnson, Hillside Park, and Forest Hills Park will be open for the holiday. For program details, visit dprplaymore.org or call 919-560-4355 during regular business hours.

Parking and Transit

The Park Durham Customer Service Center will be closed. On City-designated holidays, parking is free in metered spaces, surface lots, and select City-owned garages. Special Event Parking rules still apply.

GoDurham and GoDurham ACCESS will operate on a Sunday schedule. Riders should check for updates via the Transit App, call 919-485-RIDE (7433), or follow GoDurham on social media.

Durham One Call and Emergency Services

Durham One Call will be closed Monday, but residents can submit non-urgent requests via the City’s website, text (919-813-6315), or the free Durham One Call app. Messages left at 919-560-1200 will be handled the next business day.

For water or sewer emergencies, contact the Water Management Department’s 24/7 emergency line at 919-560-4344.
