Students Escape Burning Durham School Bus

Durham Public Schools Bus No. 131 burned on Friday afternoon at American and White Pine drives after departing Brogden Middle School.

The bus driver managed to evacuate all 28 students before the bus became fully engulfed in flames. No injuries were reported.

“We are extremely happy that our bus driver and students are safe and sound,” the school district said in a statement. “DPS extends its deepest gratitude for our bus driver’s valiance, for her quick thinking, and for using her professional training to protect our students.”

The fire’s cause remains under investigation.
