NCCU Hosts Courts-Focused Juneteenth Program

Professor Irving Joyner of North Carolina Central University’s School of Law on Thursday is set to moderate a panel discussion during a Juneteenth event on campus called “Honoring Juneteenth in Our Courts.”

The panel this year includes:

  • April Barber Scales, Justice League Fellow with Emancipate NC
  • Yolanda Fair, Assistant Juvenile Defender with the Office of Juvenile Defender
  • Tenika Hall, director and supervising attorney at NCCU’s School of Law Juvenile Law Clinic

Kristin Henning, Georgetown law professor and author of The Rage of Innocence: How America Criminalizes Black Youth, will discuss the importance of addressing race and youth experiences in the juvenile justice system.

The free event, held in the Student Center at 500 Nelson St. from 1 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, also includes:

  • Black Angels (St. Joseph’s AME Church Music Ministry)

  • Hillside High School’s One Voice Traveling Acting Troupe
