Durham Teens Invited to Serve and Lead Through Summer IMPACT Camp

Durham-area high school students looking for a meaningful way to spend their summer have an opportunity to serve their community and develop leadership skills through the Triangle Nonprofit & Volunteer Leadership Center’s (TNVLC) IMPACT Camp.

The week-long day camp is designed for rising 9th through 12th graders and runs Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., across four sessions in June and July. Participants spend the week volunteering at sites throughout the Triangle while learning about the region’s most pressing social issues – including housing insecurity, hunger, poverty, and environmental justice.

In addition to hands-on service projects, the program includes leadership and team-building exercises and opportunities for reflection. Campers will also hear from local community leaders working on the front lines of these issues.

Students must bring their own lunch each day. While some snacks are provided, transportation is not included – participants must arrange their own travel to and from each service site. Locations are shared with families the week before the session begins.

IMPACT Camp is offered the weeks of June 16–20, June 23–27, July 7–11, and July 14–18. Students who complete a full week receive 35 documented hours of community service, which can be used for school or award requirements.

The standard cost is $495 per week, with a discounted rate of $470 available for students who enroll in multiple weeks or for families registering more than one participant. A $25 referral discount is available for students who refer a friend.

Financial assistance is available through a limited number of need-based scholarships. The center encourages early application for students requesting aid. The TNVLC seeks donations to help subsidize scholarships for its participants.

To secure a spot, families must submit a $50 non-refundable deposit and complete all forms and payment no later than noon on the Monday before the camp’s start date.
