$25K Grant Opportunity for Durham Small Businesses Offers Boost in Flexibility

Local small businesses in South Durham have a new opportunity to secure funding this month, thanks to a nationwide grant program launched by Stamps.com.

The $25,000 “Small Business Flexibility Grant” is aimed at helping service-based businesses address operational challenges and improve flexibility in their day-to-day work.

The grant is open for applications through May 31, aligning with national Small Business Month. Eligible businesses must have at least three employees, have been in operation for at least two years, and provide a service-based offering.

For South Durham’s vibrant community of small businesses – ranging from cleaning services and wellness providers to tech consultants and event planners – the grant could help automate time-consuming processes, improve customer experience, or simply free up resources to grow.

“Small businesses are at the heart of our economy, and we understand how crucial flexibility is to their success,” said Nick Spitzman, general manager of Stamps.com. “Flexibility can mean the ability to work on their own schedule, 24/7 access to carrier services, or the ability to mail and ship items any way they need to.”

The grant does not place restrictions on how the money can be used. Applicants are asked to describe their business, its current operational challenges, and how the grant would help them work more efficiently or sustainably.

Durham is home to hundreds of independent service providers, many of whom still handle shipping and mailing manually. For these businesses, the grant could mean investments in software, labor, or upgraded systems that free up time for customer service, marketing, or expansion.

Applications are being accepted now at Stamps.com, and a winner will be announced in June.
