  • Heartfulness Meditation. Adults. 6 to 6:45 p.m. No registration required. The Heartfulness technique shows how to gently turn attention toward our hearts and experience that inner presence.   • Durham Senior Games Opening Ceremony. Ages 55 and up. 5:30 to 7 p.m. Pre-registration required. Olympic-style event designed to promote health year-round.   • Over 50 Crowd. Adults and senior citizens. 10 to 11:30 a.m. No registration required. A group of community members age 50 and older that meets weekly for coffee and chatting. Study Room No. 1 at East Regional Library at 211 Lick Creek Ln. (Durham County Library)
  • Growing Little Gardeners. Ages 2 to 5. 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Registration appreciated, but not required. Learn about different ways to practice fine motor skills in the garden with your little one.   • Play and Explore. Babies through kindergarten. 11 to 11:30 a.m. Let children play while comparing notes with other parents and caregivers.   • Sustainable and Emerging Trends in Death Care. Adults. 6 to 7 p.m. Registration required.   • Mobile Multi-Sensory Space. Babies through elementary school. 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration required. Portable space designed to allow a calming, therapeutic environment for individuals with sensory processing disorders. Equipped with various tools, including lights, sounds, and tactile objects. Can be reserved for 30 minutes at a time. Meeting room, side 2, at Stanford L. Warren Branch Library at 1201 Fayetteville St. (Durham County Library)
  • Candle Making. Ages 13 to 18. 6 to 7 p.m. Registration required. Learn how to make candles from scratch. Use different essential oils and colors to make candles. All materials provided. Walltown Park Recreation Center at 1308 W. Club Blvd. Fees: $1.50 for county residents; $6.50 for non-residents. (Durham Parks and Recreation)

April 26, 2025

  • History Hike: Durham’s Reconstruction. Ages 10 and up. 10 to 11 a.m. Registration required. As the Civil War ended and Reconstruction began, West Point’s mill community continued to play a large role in eastern Orange County and what would become Durham. Trained historian leads two-mile tour of the park. Wear sturdy hiking or athletic shoes and bring water bottles. West Point on the Eno at 5101 N. Roxboro St. Fees: $1.50 for county residents; $6.50 for non-residents.
  • Canine Field Day. All ages. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. No registration required (except for dogs competing in the Hyperflite Skyhoundz Dog Disc Classic). You and your dog can participate in various field games and competitions. Rock Quarry Park at 701 Stadium Dr. No fees.

April 27, 2025

  • Earth Day Festival. All ages. 12 to 5 p.m. No registration required. Enjoy a day filled with music, great food, and hands-on environmental education activities. Durham Central Park at 501 Foster St. No fees.
