On Dec. 19, the Durham Public Schools Board of Education is set to hammer out plans for “family responsibility zones” around 21 elementary schools – including Hope Valley Elementary School in South Durham. Countywide, more than 1,000 students could be removed from school buses so DPS can more efficiently use its reduced bus driver workforce.
Meanwhile, the district also extended until Jan. 17 the rotational bus coverage plan, which requires that many families lose bus transportation at least one day per week.
