The restroom at Garrett Road Park, just across the street from Jordan High School, remains out of service due to a broken sand filter system. According to the Durham General Services department, it’s not feasible to fix the filtration system because it can’t percolate.
So, the city is looking for a contractor to build a connection between the restroom facility, with four toilets and four sinks, to the sanitary sewer along Hope Valley Road, about 750 feet south.
It’s expected that the city will shortlist firms in January, grant notice to proceed in February, and finish the project – worth an estimated $500,000 – sometime in Spring 2026.
