Keep Cool, Durham! Heat Spikes This Weekend

The National Weather Service warns that heat index values could reach 105 after 2 p.m. today, and between 105 and 109 on Sunday.

Residents are encouraged to:

  • Drink plenty of fluids.
  • Stay out of the sun and in air-conditioned locations.
  • Check on relatives and neighbors.
  • Take extra precautions outside. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommends frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments to reduce risks during outdoor work.

Durham County Library branches – Main, South, and Southwest – are open today as cooling centers until 6 p.m.
