Help Name Durham’s New Health Science Early College

Durham Public Schools wants the community’s help choosing a name for the new health-focused early college funded by a Bloomberg Philanthropies grant. Residents are invited to vote in this online poll

Names up for consideration include:

  • Health Science Early College.
  • The Early College of Health Sciences at Durham Tech.
  • Health Careers Early College.
  • Early College for Health and Science.
  • Durham Early College for Medical Sciences.
  • Durham Early College for Health Science.

Students in the expanded school will have a chance to earn both a high school diploma and an associate’s degree. The school will focus on four health science pathways:

  • Nursing.
  • Allied health.
  • Surgical technology.
  • Clinical research.

The school, which represents a partnership between DPS, Duke University, and Durham Technical Community College, welcomes its first cohort of students in 2025. Students who graduate with credentials in the four pathways are expected to have opportunities to take jobs with Duke Health.
