[SoDu Sunrise Showcase] Bad for My Blood Pressure

So, I sat in Dr. Kevin Harrison’s office, waiting to get my annual heart checkup, when the phone buzzed in my pocket.

The number: Durham Public Schools. It was after 9 a.m. I had dropped the kids off an hour or more earlier. Only time I should be getting a call from DPS between dropoff and pickup is if it’s an emergency or if the district wants to reach out about a news story. I felt my pulse pick up. Suspected my blood pressure was ticking upward. Last time I got a call like this, Athena had to come home sick.

I answered the phone and heard an automated voice message urging Hope Valley Elementary Families to pitch in more money to reach the $25,000 Boosterthon goal tomorrow.

I do hope Hope Valley hits that goal – Southpoint Access is a proud sponsor of the event (we’re even on the T-shirt!) and contributed to Athena’s class. But I prefer to reserve daytime phone calls for critical issues that demand immediate attention as opposed to fundraising.
