[SoDu Alert] FDA Bans Red Dye No. 3 in Food and Drugs

The FDA is banning FD&C Red No. 3, a synthetic dye used in candies, baked goods, frozen desserts, and some medications, citing links to cancer in lab rats. Manufacturers must reformulate food by Jan. 15, 2027, and drugs by Jan. 18, 2028.

Families in South Durham should check product labels for terms like “FD&C Red No. 3” or “erythrosine” as companies phase out the dye.
