A proposal to transform 24 acres on Chin Page Road into a 360-unit apartment complex took a significant step forward this week. On Tuesday, the Durham Planning Commission unanimously recommended that the City Council approve the project, proposed by Griffith Capital LLC.
The development site, previously home to a Goodwill community garden, is located in a mixed-use area near the 340,000-square-foot Wolfspeed facility, which is expected to relocate to Chatham County.
Key highlights of the Chin Page Road Apartments project include:
- Affordable Housing: 3% of the units will be designated as affordable housing.
- Connectivity: Plans include a 10-foot-wide concrete shared path and a potential greenway connection.
- Community Contributions: The developer has pledged a $65,000 donation to Durham Public Schools.
Despite hosting two neighborhood meetings and inviting feedback through the city’s Rezoning Explorer, no public comments or opposition were recorded. No opponents appeared at the Planning Commission meeting.
The City Council will schedule a public hearing to make a final decision. Stay tuned to our newsletter for updates on this project and other local development news!
