
Durham Public Schools traditional calendar campuses are back in service on Aug. 25. Whether your child is entering kindergarten or wrapping up elementary school in 5th, having the right supplies can make a big difference.
Here’s a complete breakdown of what your Murray-Massenburg Elementary School student needs, including required materials for each grade level and helpful donation items that teachers welcome throughout the year.
🧸 Kindergarten
Label These:
- Large backpack (no wheels)
- Complete change of clothes in a labeled Ziploc bag
- 1 set of wired headphones (no earbuds)
- 1 pair of kid scissors
- 1-inch 3-ring binder with clear view
Do NOT Label:
- 1 box of Kleenex
- 2 bottles of hand sanitizer
- 1 pack of Ticonderoga pre-sharpened pencils
- 1 pack of pink erasers
- 3 boxes of 24-count Crayola crayons
- 2 packs of 4 skinny black dry erase markers (Expo preferred)
- 2 large Clorox wipe containers
- 12 glue sticks
- 4 plastic folders with pockets
- Ziploc bags (by last name):
- A–F: Snack size
- G–L: Sandwich size
- M–R: Quart size
- S–Z: Gallon size
Optional:
- 1 box of 10-count markers
- Sharpie markers
- Recess equipment (jump ropes, balls, hula hoops, chalk)
- Prize box items

Each child should bring a daily snack, if possible. A system will be established for those who cannot.
