Whatever Happened to Our Mall Fountains?

It started a couple years back, when the fountain in front of the Southpoint AMC theater got replaced by green artificial turf for the kids to roll around on.

Recently, owners of The Streets at Southpoint kept going, shutting down fountains and removing bronze sculptures.

But why?

I finally heard back from a mall spokesperson, who said:

“At The Streets at Southpoint, we’re always working to enhance the customer experience and create more vibrant, welcoming spaces. So, after 23 great years, we decided it was time to refresh the fountain areas with new seating and a small stage for entertainment and community events.”

They also plan to add new trees and lighting.

  1. Horrible. Ugly cement space. They did it to save money. It was so pretty, no reason to go there now.
