Durham Public Schools traditional calendar campuses are back in service on Aug. 25. Sherwood Githens Middle School holds its open house on Aug. 21 from 3 to 6 p.m.

Here’s a complete breakdown of what your student needs, including required materials for each grade level and helpful donation items that teachers welcome throughout the year.


🟢 6th Grade

Daily Supplies (keep in pencil pouch):

  • Colored pencils
  • 1 glue stick (suggest 4–6 total for year)
  • Pencils (suggest 4–6 packs for year)
  • 1 dry-erase marker
  • Scissors
  • Wired headphones (no wireless or earbuds)

By Subject:

Math

  • 1–3 subject notebook (for Math only)
  • 1 pocket folder

Science

  • 1 composition or spiral notebook (stays in classroom)
