South Durham continued to see a high number of property crimes last week, with a pronounced pattern of motor vehicle burglaries and thefts at both residential and commercial locations. Fraud and forgery cases also remained steady, with scattered reports of aggravated assault, individual robbery, harassment, and a small number of more serious offenses.

Key Trends & Patterns

Fraud/Forgery:
Remains a persistent issue, affecting businesses and individuals along major corridors including Fayetteville Road, T.W. Alexander Drive, and Renaissance Parkway. Cyber-related frauds were noted.

Motor Vehicle Crimes Dominate:
The majority of reported incidents were motor vehicle burglaries and thefts, affecting homes, apartment complexes, hotels, commercial offices, and parking lots. South Miami Boulevard, South Alston Avenue, East NC Highway 54, and Fayetteville Road stood out as hot spots.

Commercial Properties Targeted:
A significant portion of burglaries and thefts took place at hotels, commercial office buildings, and shopping malls. Notably, East NC Highway 54 and Page Road both had multiple reports of commercial burglary and vehicle break-ins.

Repeat Locations:
Several blocks had multiple incidents within days, suggesting either targeted repeat offenders or vulnerable locations – especially the 4300 block of South Alston Avenue, the 5400 block of South Miami Boulevard, and hotel areas on East NC Highway 54.

Other Offenses:

Assaults (simple and aggravated) were reported but were less frequent than property crimes.
Sexual offense: One case reported on Garrett Road.
Individual robberies: Two incidents – one on Penrith Drive and one on South Miami Boulevard.
Harassment/Intimidation: Scattered throughout residential neighborhoods.
