Music on Main Returns to The Streets at Southpoint on May 10

Live music will fill the air again at The Streets at Southpoint starting May 10, when the Music on Main outdoor concert series, sponsored by Duke Arts, returns for another season of free Saturday performances.

The concerts, which are open to the public, will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. each Saturday through the first weekend of October. Acts will perform on the Stage at Southpoint, located at 6910 Fayetteville Rd., outside the AMC cinema.

“Duke Arts is proud to partner with The Streets at Southpoint to provide free performances by exciting local and regional artists,” said John Brown, vice provost for the arts at Duke University. “As a resident of South Durham myself, I’m looking forward to taking in the scene!”

Concertgoers are encouraged to bring chairs, blanket,s and picnics from home, or to grab takeout from the mall’s many restaurants. Attendees can also enjoy the mall’s social district, which permits alcoholic beverages purchased from participating restaurants and bars to be carried around designated areas.

The opening month of the series features a variety of musical styles:

  • May 10: Tre. Charles: An alternative/indie soul artist known for his emotive vocals and vulnerable storytelling. His latest EP, Here We Are, has earned acclaim from NPR and TEDx audiences.
  • May 17: Tamisha Waden: A North Carolina native celebrated for her rich R&B and jazz vocals. Waden has performed with Roy Ayers and The Foreign Exchange and is preparing to release a new EP.

  • May 24: Todd Wright: A veteran saxophonist and Director of Jazz Studies at Appalachian State University, Wright has performed internationally and remains a leading advocate for jazz education.
  • May 31: Kate McGarry & Keith Ganz Quartet: This Grammy-nominated duo blends jazz with emotional storytelling, earning praise from The Wall Street Journal and DownBeat.

Additional performances for the season will be announced in the coming weeks.
