Southpoint Access Pledges 20% of Revenue to Help Save Parktown Food Hub

Parktown Food Hub, a community-based nonprofit organization working to fight hunger in Durham, is in danger of shutting down by the end of the year unless it can raise $150,000.

“We estimate that we only have the financial resources to operate for another six months,” the food hub shared in a statement on its Facebook page. “Please donate today to help us keep our doors open.”

To support the food hub’s efforts, Southpoint Access is pledging 20% of all subscription revenue and advertising sales from now through July 31 to Parktown Food Hub’s fundraising campaign.

Located in South Durham, Parktown Food Hub serves as a vital safety net for families, seniors, and children experiencing food insecurity. The organization’s mission is to feed as many people as possible with zero food waste, distributing food to those in need while maintaining dignity and minimizing environmental impact.

In a video posted to social media, Steve Toll, a member of the Parktown Food Hub nonprofit board, urged the community to rally around the cause.

“Right here in Durham, too many of our neighbors face the painful reality of food insecurity,” Toll said. “Families are stretched thin. Seniors are making impossible choices between groceries and medications. Children are showing up at school without enough to eat. At the Parktown Food Hub, we’re doing everything we can to be a consistent, compassionate presence to make sure no one falls through the cracks, but we can’t do it alone.”

Toll emphasized that donations are critical not just to purchase food, but to sustain the hub’s staffing, refrigeration and storage systems, delivery network, and the community partnerships that ensure effective outreach.

“If you’ve ever wondered how you can make a real impact in your community, this is one way,” he said.

Southpoint Access invites readers and local businesses to join the effort:

Every new subscription and ad sale between now and July 31 will help fuel Parktown Food Hub’s mission to reduce hunger – and strengthen South Durham.
