Durham Council Passes HIV Housing Amendments, Affordable Housing

The Durham City Council meeting on Monday focused on housing and public health, from addressing the city’s HIV cases to the need to work against increasing evictions to approvals for new affordable housing units in South Durham.

On the development front, council members unanimously approved:

  • Rezoning for the Page/Miami Design District, aiming to boost transit-oriented and equitable growth.
  • Affordable housing at Page Corners, which could bring 160 income-restricted apartments to South Durham without a city subsidy.
  • Rezoning on Ellis Road to provide more “missing middle” housing, including duplexes.
