We’re excited to launch the SoDu We Love Reading Book Club, a new way for neighbors – and anyone who loves a good book – to come together and share thoughtful conversations rooted in community and culture.
Our first selection is Song in a Weary Throat by Pauli Murray, a trailblazing civil rights activist, lawyer, poet, priest, and one of Durham’s most extraordinary historical figures. The memoir is a powerful account of Murray’s life during the Jim Crow era, their fight for social justice, and their reflections on identity, belonging, and resistance.
This book club will be hosted on the Southpoint Access subreddit, where readers can follow along at their own pace and take part in weekly discussion threads. No pressure, no required pace – just an open invitation to read and connect.
📆 Our first discussion thread goes live Tuesday, April 15.
📚 You can find the book at Durham County Library, Letters Bookshop, The Regulator, or in audiobook/eBook format.
Whether you’re a lifelong reader or just looking to finish one meaningful book this year, you’re welcome to join us. Come be part of a new community tradition centered on reflection, learning, and local voices.
