Wolfspeed Names New CEO, Feurle to Lead from Durham Headquarters

Wolfspeed, Inc., a global leader in silicon carbide technology, has appointed Robert Feurle as its next chief executive officer, effective May 1. Feurle will relocate to the company’s headquarters in Durham, where he will oversee Wolfspeed’s operations and strategic initiatives during a period of growth and transformation.

Experienced Leader to Guide Wolfspeed’s Next Phase

Feurle brings more than 20 years of experience in the power semiconductor industry, including leadership roles at ams-OSRAM AG, Infineon Technologies, Micron Technology, Qimonda, and Siemens. Most recently, he served as executive vice president and general manager of the Opto Semiconductors Business Unit at ams-OSRAM AG, where he managed more than 10,000 employees and advanced the company’s position in LED and laser technologies for automotive and other applications.

A dual citizen of the United States and Germany, Feurle previously spent a decade in executive roles at Micron Technology in the United States and will be returning to the country to assume his new position.

“I am excited to join Wolfspeed during such a transformative period,” Feurle said in a statement. “The company’s leadership in silicon carbide technology is impressive, and I am eager to build on that foundation. With its world-class facilities, talented workforce, and robust intellectual property, Wolfspeed is well-positioned to strengthen its market leadership.”

Leadership Transition at Wolfspeed

Feurle will succeed Thomas Werner, who has been serving as interim executive chairman and will return to his role as chairman of the board following the transition.

“Robert’s extensive experience in semiconductor technologies and his track record of driving operational success make him the right person to lead Wolfspeed into the future,” Werner said. “The board and I look forward to working closely with Robert to navigate market dynamics and position the company for long-term success.”

Focus on Financial Performance and Growth

Feurle joins Wolfspeed as the company works to improve financial performance, strengthen its balance sheet, and accelerate its path to generating positive free cash flow. His background includes overseeing strategic initiatives in silicon and silicon carbide technologies, managing product introductions, and leading global business units focused on competitive differentiation and profitable growth.

During his time at Infineon Technologies, Feurle helped expand market opportunities in silicon carbide technologies and was part of the team involved in the proposed acquisition of Wolfspeed’s operations in 2016.

Durham’s Role in Wolfspeed’s Strategy

Wolfspeed’s headquarters in Durham remains central to the company’s operations, and Feurle’s relocation to the area is expected to facilitate close collaboration with the company’s leadership team and workforce. Wolfspeed continues to play a significant role in Durham’s technology sector, contributing to the region’s reputation as a hub for semiconductor innovation and advanced manufacturing.

Feurle’s appointment is expected to support Wolfspeed’s efforts to secure cost-effective capital and scale its silicon carbide technology to meet increasing global demand.

“With all of Wolfspeed’s competitive advantages, I am confident that we will be able to refine our operating plan, enhance financial performance, and accelerate our path to positive free cash flow,” Feurle said.
