A divided Durham City Council on Monday surprised us with an agenda item that hadn’t been publicized: the appointment of Deputy City Manager Bo Ferguson as successor to outgoing City Manager Wanda Page. Some members of the board thought a nationwide search would’ve been more appropriate.

On Fayetteville Street, between two public schools, a developer wants to build 220 apartments – but the city says a traffic impact study isn’t necessary. That’s worrisome.

And should we read anything into the fact that Durham Public Schools administrators want to revisit the classified worker “reduction in force” policy this close to Christmas? (SPOILER: Probably not. The district can’t really afford to let people go right now without a good reason.)
