[SoDu Gallery] Dignitaries Dedicate New Durham Elementary School
Politicians, relatives, Durham Public Schools staff, and the builders that took Murray-Massenburg Elementary School from a plan on paper to a high-tech reality in South Durham gathered Oct. 8 for a ribbon cutting to dedicate the facility in honor of activist and human rights leader Pauli Murray and Betty Massenburg, a writer who also served as Durham’s first Black school principal. Speakers included the Rev. Dwyian N. Davis, representing Murray’s family, and Phyllis Massenburg on behalf of her family.
