South Durham may get its own version of downtown Durham’s Bullpen social district next month at The Streets at Southpoint.
“I do not have a specific date as we are working through several details and requirements to get this established,” said Agnes Stevens, spokesperson for The Streets at Southpoint. “Right now, we are looking at a likely August implementation.”
The social district would allow alcoholic beverages outside within a specified area designated by signs throughout the open-air section of the mall.

How would the social district work?
Based on the example set by the Bullpen downtown, it’s likely that outside alcoholic beverages would be forbidden. To-go drinks would be limited to those sold by Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission-permitted establishments at The Streets at Southpoint and would have to be consumed within the district before leaving.
The Streets at Southpoint holds a Common Area Entertainment permit from the ABC Commission that was renewed in March 2024.
