Durham Schools Foundation Names Scholarship Recipients

The Durham Public Schools Foundation has announced the students who received scholarships funded by charitable giving to the organization during the 2023-2024 academic year.

Those students include:

  • Jani Alston, Hillside High School, First Generation Scholarship.
  • Diane Mikaela Apolonio, Middle College at Durham Technical Community College, Durham Promise Scholarship.
  • Christian Barron-Anaya, The School for Creative Studies, Durham Promise Scholarship.
  • Harambe Boakye, City of Medicine Academy, City of Medicine Academy Scholarship.
  • DeAsia Brodie, Southern School of Energy and Sustainability, John T. Smith Memorial Scholarship.
  • Faith Crumpler, Hillside High School, Hillside Class of ’66 Alumni Scholarship.
  • Olivia Henson, Hillside High School, Rachel Lawrence Scholarship.
  • Amory P. Juarez, Riverside High School, Kayla P. Radack Scholarship.
  • Tyler Mance, Durham School of Technology, Durham Promise Scholarship.
  • Donovan Marshall, Jordan High School, Durham Promise Scholarship.

The DPS Foundation offers several scholarships each year, including:

Durham Promise Fund

  • Amount: $3,000
  • Eligibility: All graduating DPS seniors with a 2.5 GPA
  • Description: Community-funded, aims to provide debt-free college education. Automatically considered for all DPS Foundation scholarships.

Andrew Edward Crabtree Scholarship (Riverside Students)

  • Amount: $5,000
  • Eligibility: Graduating seniors at Riverside High School with a 2.75 GPA, involved in drama, choral music, history, or creative writing.

Christopher Furr Scholarship (Northern High School Students)

  • Amount: $1,000
  • Eligibility: Graduating seniors at Northern High School with a 2.5 GPA, involved in extracurriculars, accepted into college.

City of Medicine Academy Scholarship (CMA Students)

  • Amount: $1,000 and $500
  • Eligibility: Graduating seniors at City of Medicine Academy with a 2.75 GPA, accepted into college.

First Generation Scholarship

  • Amount: $1,000
  • Eligibility: Graduating first-generation college-bound DPS seniors with a 2.5 GPA.

John T. Smith Memorial Scholarship (Southern School of Energy and Sustainability Students)

  • Amount: $1,000
  • Eligibility: Graduating seniors at Southern School of Energy and Sustainability with a 2.5 GPA, demonstrated academic and leadership qualities.

Kayla P. Radack Scholarship (Riverside High School)

  • Amount: $4,000 (renewable)
  • Eligibility: Graduating female seniors at Riverside High School with a 2.75 GPA, accepted into college, demonstrated academic and leadership qualities.

Norma Russell Scholarship (Northern High School Students)

  • Amount: $1,000
  • Eligibility: Graduating seniors at Northern High School with a 2.5 GPA, accepted into college, demonstrated citizenship and responsibility.

Rachel Lawrence Scholarship

  • Amount: $3,000
  • Eligibility: Graduating DPS seniors from traditional high schools with a 3.0 GPA, accepted into college, demonstrated leadership and volunteer service.
